Meet the team – Emily Cobb

July 2026

Emily Cobb joined Howie, Kent & Co in September as part of her 12-month placement from Harper Adams University, where she is studying Rural Enterprise and Land Management.

Originally from Oxfordshire, Emily initially pursued a career in Veterinary Nursing at Harper Adams University. However, a growing passion for the countryside, alongside watching every season of Clarkson’s Farm inspired her to change direction and study Rural Enterprise and Land Management, with the ambition of becoming a Chartered Surveyor and Land Agent.

Now 10 months into her placement, Emily has become a valued member of the team, immersing herself in the routine running of the business and gaining hands-on experience across a range of commercial property and land agency work.

Working closely with Duncan Howie, Emily provides day-to-day support across the commercial side of the business while acting as Duncan’s assistant. She helps manage enquiries from landlords, assists with the promotion and letting of commercial properties, and supports the smooth running of a busy office. Through this role, Emily has quickly developed the confidence and practical skills needed to work in a fast-paced rural surveying practice.

Her placement has given her valuable insight into the realities of rural surveying and commercial property, allowing her to put the theory from her degree into practice while learning from an experienced and supportive team. She also supports a diverse range of clients across the commercial property sector, making Howie, Kent & Co her first role within a land agency practice.

Emily has been a fantastic asset to Howie, Kent & Co during her placement. Her enthusiasm, willingness to learn and positive attitude have made her a popular member of the team, and it has been a pleasure to watch her grow in confidence over the past year.

Alongside her university studies, Emily is currently undertaking the Rural pathway for her RICS Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) as she works towards becoming a Chartered Surveyor. She is also progressing towards becoming a Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers (CAAV), with guidance and support from colleague Becky Evans, the firm’s Training Officer and Convenor for the West Midlands and Wales CAAV Examination Group.

Following the completion of her placement, Emily will return to Harper Adams University to complete the final year of her degree before graduating. She is looking forward to continuing her career in the rural surveying profession and building on the experience she has gained during her time at Howie, Kent & Co.

Outside of work, Emily enjoys spending time riding her horse, Moony, attending equestrian and countryside events, and making the most of the Shropshire countryside on long weekend walks.
