Meet the team – Sarah Howie

Sarah Howie is a founding Director of Howie, Kent & Co and is responsible for finance, compliance and HR.

After growing up in rural Shropshire, Sarah read Land Economy at the University of Cambridge and then joined a national firm of surveyors in Chelmsford, Essex, where she qualified as a Chartered Surveyor and became of Fellow of the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers.

Whilst living in Essex for five years, Sarah met her now husband Duncan through Young Farmers. In 2016, they moved up to Shropshire to join Sarah’s family’s dairy farming business, and at the same time set up Howie, Kent & Co as a surveying business.

Sarah’s involvement in Howie, Kent & Co includes almost everything except any day to day surveying work. Heading up the compliance side of the business, Sarah deals with the firm’s regulation and oversees all finance and HR. Sarah is pivotal in the running of the business and working with Duncan in setting the growth and direction of the firm.

Sarah splits her time between the desk at Howie, Kent & Co, managing the 300-cow autumn block calving dairy herd and commercial property within the farming business. The cows are grazed from February to October, with all replacement heifers reared on farm. Sarah is passionate about calf and heifer rearing and striving to achieve a 12-week calving block whilst maximising milk produced from both grazed grass and forage.

Away from Howie, Kent & Co and the farm, Sarah enjoys spending time with her three young children, their two labradors, and seeing friends over a glass of wine. Together, Sarah and Duncan ran a half marathon up and down the Longmynd in Shropshire last year, and Sarah is back out running as often as she can! When life is less busy Sarah looks forward to getting back on a horse.
