Graduate Surveyor Vacancy

The Howie, Kent & Co graduate program offers a role situated in our rural Shrewsbury office, allowing graduates to gain a broad understanding of the surveying industry and to prepare for their APC, on their way to becoming a chartered surveyor. An RICS-accredited degree is preferred but non RICS-accredited degrees will also be considered.

The Howie, Kent & Co professional team operate at the forefront of renewable energy development, providing site-finding services to a variety of clients across the UK for solar, battery energy storage systems, wind and anaerobic digestion, as well as site-finding for residential development and leisure development. We also deal with all other third-party rights to make these projects possible e.g. cable easements.

As a graduate at Howie, Kent & Co, you could be out on a site visit one day looking at feasibility options for a solar farm, then mapping in the office the next day for site constraints, then on a client weekly Microsoft Teams meeting the next day updating a client on the 10 sites that you are working on for them, which are at various different development stages.

The role will include:

  • Site finding for renewable energy projects, including initial site finding, negotiating with landowners to agree heads of terms and option agreements
  • Reporting to senior surveyors
  • Planning work
  • Commercial lettings
  • Landlord and tenant
  • Farm agency

Wh0 are we looking for?

  • Desire to progress within the property sector to complete your APC
  • Highly organised and good communicator
  • Proficient IT skills, particularly to have or develop the ability to use digital mapping systems
  • Team player
  • Up for a laugh!

Training

As a graduate surveyor, you will have regular opportunities to attend internal and external training events as preparation for both your RICS APC and the Central Association of Agricultural Valuers exams, which we would also encourage you to take. All training and RICS costs will be covered by the company. The office runs a personal development book club to help you to develop personally as well as professionally.  You will have an APC supervisor and counsellor to support you through your two-year APC training, who will help with your training, experience and development via regular reviews.

Once you have successfully passed your APC, you will continue to partake in external and internal training throughout your career, to meet Continuing Professional Development requirements for the RICS as well as to keep up to date with legislation and personal development.
